Description:

South Texas and the Rio-Grande valley have an abundance of birds including many species that are only in this area of the United States. This workshop is timed to coincide with the early spring migrations which should allow us the opportunity to photograph a larger variety of bird species, including hard to photograph small and shy birds. From squirrels to bobcats, there may be opportunities to photograph other wildlife from blinds. We will dedicate a day for raptors and maybe some snakes as well.

Our home base will be the Santa Clara ranch in McCook, TX. Staying at the guesthouse, on the ranch, will allow us more time for photography and classroom sessions. All meals will be provided on location. Mornings will start with a 3 hour session in one of the many blinds at the ranch. After breakfast, you will have a chance to download and review images from the morning. The classroom time after lunch will be used for image feedback and processing demonstrations followed by an afternoon photo session.

On day 2, we will be joined by local photographer Ruth Hoyt who will help with the orientation of the ranch. Ruth and Nikhil will help set you up in the blinds for the first time. She will return on day 5 to help with the raptor shoot. You will find Ruth to be an asset that will enhance your workshop experience.
